Music Choice Awards

This morning as I checked Facebook, I expected it to be like any other day. Watch funny videos, catch up with statuses, news and anything else I may have missed over the last 12 hours. As I logged in, I had numerous personal messages and over 30 notifications. Why was my Facebook so crazy this morning? I am honored and humbled to say I won two Music Choice Awards by Showtime Magazine. To say I was floored is completely an understatement. I’ve been up for awards in the past and have always been so thankful for just a nomination. I never actually thought I’d win any of them. I won Best Female Artist and Best Acoustic Artist. (WHAT?!?!!!!)

After the initial shock wore off, I immediately questioned and researched how were the nominees judged and what exactly were they scored on. After all, if someone wins an award it should always be earned and not just given. I’ve never been fond of fan voting to figure out who the winner is since it pits artists (and friends) against each other. It is an award to see who can get the most votes based on how many times a site is spammed for one. It has nothing to do with scoring with a panel of judges. After reading the specifications on judging for the Showtime Magazine Live Music Awards, it became clear that the awards I received today was something special.

The Showtime Magazine’s judging and scoring process: “Each judge has a predefined set of questions to fill out for either nominated venues or entertainers. Each has an option of 1-5 (1 being lowest, 5 highest). Questions range from Avatar appearance. audio quality, show enjoyment for entertainers, to friendliness of venue staff, appearance, landing zone, entertainment schedule and so much more. Each Judging Form consists of over 20 scoring questions. This is a very comprehensive scoring process and very accurate way to define the Best of the Best”. Results of the awards consisted of “41 days of judging live events from over 30 judges who applied to participate in this very difficult process. Judges scored each venue & artist on various aspects to come to an average total for each category to determine the Top Professional Artists & Venues. After tallying over 5000 score cards, each of those final averages where compared to the results of all those nominated that had active event schedules”.

Let me clarify – I do not and will never consider myself “the best”. Nope. Absolutely not. The day any performer thinks they are better or “the best” is the day they lose themselves. There’s always room to improve. To learn. To inspire and be inspired. To grow.

Congratulations to the nominees and award recipients. You all are sensational.

I am humbled. I am honored. I am absolutely floored.

Thank you.awards
